Moments of Momo 饃饃時刻 | Nepali Restaurant in Hong Kong
A documentary about a Nepalese-Hong Kong couple who build a restaurant, a home, and a community one momo dumpling at a time. Through the story of Momo Moment, a small but homely Nepali restaurant located in Kennedy Town, the film explores how food becomes a bridge between cultures, how migration reshapes belonging, and how a small kitchen holds a world of dreams. From navigating cultural differences to redefining what “authenticity” means, the couple’s journey reveals the tenderness, challenges, and everyday labour behind creating a shared life across cultures. Despite the long history and sizable presence of Nepali people in Hong Kong, the community remains largely overlooked in mainstream conversations about culture and ethnic minorities. Many Hong Kong residents may not realize that Nepali workers form the backbone of the city’s food and beverage industry -- a reality echoed by Rohan, a Nepali owner of an Italian restaurant and a regular at Momo Moment, who says in the film: “80 percent of Food & Beverage here in Hong Kong runs by Nepalese people, and F&B succeeds because of us.” This documentary hopes to shed light on the Nepali community’s contributions, histories, and lived experiences in Hong Kong, and perhaps inspire you to learn more about the cultures around you -- or simply try a dish from a heritage you have yet to explore!
